Who You Are
You are a proactive individual with a background in construction/surveying, possessing a recognized degree leading to a corporate membership of RICS or equivalent. You have a basic knowledge in areas such as building construction, structural engineering, or fire safety in buildings. You understand the main building legislation, including the Building Act 1984 and the Building Regulations, and are capable of preparing reports, schedules, and taking enforcement actions.
What the Job Involves
As a Building Control Technician, you will supervise an area within the borough to ensure compliance with building control legislation. Your responsibilities include attending office meetings, examining plans, appraising calculations, supervising site work, identifying contraventions, enforcing regulations, and maintaining records. You will liaise with other departments, assist in recovery of fees, promote Camden's Building Control service, respond to building control inquiries, and make impactful decisions on complex building projects. The role involves frequent lone working and site inspections, often requiring the use of ladders, scaffolding, and working in potentially noisy and dirty environments.
